While medical marijuana is legal in Florida, there have been multiple failed attempts to get marijuana onto the Florida ballot. This year, there has been renewed pressure. Multiple groups, such as the dispensary Trulieve and even the country music group, the Bellamy Brothers, are just a couple of the many groups that have created and distributed petitions to get marijuana onto the 2024 ballot (Lanning). At least 900,000 signatures will be needed to push marijuana onto the ballot. However, even if the number of signatures is collected, if the Supreme Court takes legal issue with the measure, then the legislation can still be struck down (Lanning).

The CEO of Trulieve, Kim Rivers, stated in an interview with News Service of Florida, that to her, recreational marijuana is all about public safety, and providing products for a fair price (Lanning). Her thoughts echo the thousands in Florida that are signing petitions to get marijuana on the ballot.
