Is Weed the Reason Wiz Khalifa Wasn’t Invited to the 2022 Met Gala?

The Met Gala is a fundraising gala that occurs once a year in New York to raise funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Costume Institute. It is an event known for the fashions and the celebrities who make an appearance, and at one point Wiz Khalifa was one of those celebrities but not recently, the reason being that the organizers feared he would smoke weed on the red carpet. 

The last time Wiz Khalifa attended the Met Gala was about four years where he did smoke weed on the red carpet. The reasoning was valid then, but as of March 2021, weed has become legal in the state of New York so Wiz Khalifa would not be committing a crime if he did smoke weed. The decision was not made out of fears of breaking any laws but more of the organizers preferences. 

On twitter Wiz Khalifa stated “I don’t blame em but weed is legal dude, sheesh” (2022). Wiz Khalifa is one of many celebrities who haven’t been invited back to the Met Gala after similar incidents, but perhaps next year will be different for the American rapper.
