Rhode Island will soon have a medical marijuana license lottery
A lottery system is set to decide which business will receive a medical marijuana dispensary license in Rhode Island. According to Rhode Island’s Department of Business Regulation, a blindfolded former FBI agent will spin a wheel that holds numerous numbered lottery balls, winners will be selected from this pool and only 5 applicants will be selected.
The decision to use a lottery system was made after multiple delays in the decision to execute the plan after its approval in 2019 by the General Assembly. The lottery is set to take place on Oct. 29 at 10 a.m. and will be held in Providence at the Department of Administration building.
