Cannabis Reform in the Midwest

While the midwestern part of the United States generally leans towards a more conservative view on marijuana, there are four states that have marijuana change advocates that have collected and submitted a number of signatures. In Oklahoma, the group Oklahomans for Sensible Marijuana Laws has turned in 164,000 signatures, getting marijuana legalization on the November ballot (Norml). Responsible Growth Arkansas garnered 190,000 signatures on their legalization petition and New Approach ND (North Dakota) accrued 25,762 signatures for recreational legalization (Norml). Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana is working to establish a legal medical market by collecting about 90,000 signatures (Norml).
All four midwestern states have successfully gotten marijuana legislation on their 2022 ballots. Three of them are for a recreational and retail markets, and one is trying for a medical market. Other states have done the same, such as Maryland and South Dakota, which have announced that legalization efforts are on their 2022 ballots (Norml).
