Why CBD deserves more appreciation from the cannabis community.
Written By: Erica Godinez
“What is the THC content in this?” you often hear when discussing cannabis products at a dispensary or with a fellow stoner. But within the cannabis community, you might not often hear people inquire about how much CBD is in a product. Why is that?
Most CBD consumers enjoy these products for the various benefits and relief that they can give you, without the psychoactive effects of THC. But to a “stoner” or regular THC consumer, CBD is what they believe they don’t need any of. They may feel that only what gets them high is what works for them. There are endless CBD products, shops, expos, conventions and more. In 2021, CBD retail sales reached $4.7 billion. We aren’t saying that CBD is forgotten, but within the THC-loving community, CBD is often ignored. But for those who have yet to give it a try or don’t believe in its true benefits, we are going to talk about why CBD is so underappreciated amongst THC smokers, despite numbers and figures proving that there is a huge market for it.
Relieves Anxiety
THC may relieve anxiety for many consumers, but a lot of times people don’t want the high and potential fogginess, clumsiness, and forgetfulness that could occasionally come with it. THC affects everybody differently. Not everyone can be Marc Wasserman from the Pot Brothers at Law, who smokes all day, every day, and can consume thousands of milligrams of THC each day, all while going to court and helping clients avoid charges and jail time. Many people can’t function in the way they want to while being high. But how do they relieve day to day stress and anxiety without a daily joint? Hemp/CBD flower, edibles, cartridges, and more have the same (if not stronger) stress relieving effects without the high. Many also report getting “high” from CBD flower (which sometimes contains a small amount of THC), but in a lighter and much more manageable way. If completely ditching THC for CBD is out of the question (no worries, we get it) then try mixing CBD with your THC products for a more pleasant experience.
Aids Those In Recovery
“CBD is not a scam,” said Yasmin Hurd, director of the Addiction Institute of Mount Sinai in New York City who led a double-blind study of 42 recovering heroin addicts and found that CBD reduced both cravings and cue-based anxiety, both of which can cycle people back into using. “It has a potential medicinal value, but when we are putting it into mascara and putting it into tampons, for God’s sake, to me, that’s a scam.”
