How Is Rosin Made?

Unless you are an avid marijuana user, you may not be aware of what rosin it. Rosin is a cannabis concentrate used for vape pens, or dab rigs, which is made without the use of chemicals like alcohol. It is also known for its incredible flavor and vigor, and this is due to the unique process of creating the substance.

Finished rosin looks like amber, or honey and can be placed into refillable or disposable cartridges for consumption. Either fresh frozen, or dried marijuana plants can be used to make ice water hash, the first step in making rosin. If frozen, the plants need to be kept at -42 C in a cryogenic freezer and when they are frozen, the plants will be doused in cold water to extract the trichomes (Goggins). Cooling the plant is how rosin can stay so flavorful and so strong, as it entraps terpenes and cannabinoids (Goggins). The water and trichrome mixture is drained, then dried in an oven creating the signature gooey texture and amber color. It is now ready to be prepped for dispensary sales.
