Five States Decide On Cannabis Legalization On Election Day
Election day on November 8th was a big day for many, but an especially big day to those in the cannabis community. Five states including South Dakota, North Dakota, Maryland, Arkansas, and Missouri voted on cannabis legalization. The results are in and cannabis users in two of these states will be pleased while the others will be dissatisfied.
*Note, these are the most recent updates, more votes may be added, but not enough to fully sway the decision.*
Maryland Votes To Legalize Cannabis
Starting in July of 2023, people 21+ in Maryland will be able to possess and use 1.5 ounces of cannabis.
- 970,834 people voted “Yes”
- 510,337 people voted “No”
Missouri Votes To Legalize Cannabis
In 2018, voters chose to legalize the medical possession of Cannabis. Now, everyone 21+ will be able to use, possess, sell, and produce cannabis.
- 1,089,017 people voted “Yes”
- 962,230 people voted “No”
North Dakota Does NOT Vote To Legalize Cannabis
Voters rejected the measure to allow people 21+ to possess and buy 1 ounce of cannabis.
- 130,873 people voted “No”
- 107,299 people votes “Yes”
South Dakota Does NOT Vote To Legalize Cannabis
Voters declined the measure to allow the use and possession of a certain amount of cannabis for people 21+.
- 183,856 people voted “No”
- 163,559 people voted “Yes”
Arkansas Does NOT Vote To Legalize Cannabis
Voters denied an amendment to allow people 21+ to possess and purchase up to 1 ounce of cannabis along with the ability to buy cannabis from official dispensaries for any reason.
- 502,246 people voted “No”
- 389,934 people voted “Yes”
