Wait, In Canada Uber Eats Can Deliver My Cannabis?
Canadians in Toronto now have a new quick and easy way to get their cannabis. UberEats has partnered with Leafly, a cannabis marketplace, to bring cannabis to customers’ doorsteps easily. Previously, people in Ontario have been able to use Uber Eats to purchase cannabis but customers had to order it for pick up. Now, residents in Toronto can order it right to the comfort of their own home.
The purpose of this new partnership is stated to be “We are partnering with industry leaders like Leafly to help retailers offer safe, convenient options for people in Toronto to purchase legal cannabis for delivery to their homes, which will help combat the illegal market and help reduce impaired driving,” explained Lola Kassim, UberEats General Manager in Canada. Residents over the age of 19, the current legal age to purchase cannabis in Canada, can select the “Cannabis” category on the UberEats app to deliver. While you will receive a warning that you have to be of age, once you surpass that, you will be able to view all of the cannabis products that are available for delivery. Then, once your order is placed, a “budtender,” who they are now calling your cannabis delivery person, will come to your home, verify your age and hand you your cannabis right at your doorstep!
The Hill states that “The new initiative comes as the Ontario Cannabis Store detailed that the number of cannabis stores has risen to 1,460 this year, up from the 1,333 reported stores in the province from the previous year, according to the CBC.” Currently, you are able to get cannabis delivered in Canada through Leafly, but UberEats is a more well known service that could even get your cannabis to you faster. Uber Eats and Leafly is hoping that this new feature will prevent underground purchases of cannabis and promote safer ways to get cannabis into your own hands.
Relax, pull out your phone, and order cannabis to your home!
