What is Cola?
So I’ve decided to do this thing where I explore every single part of a cannabis plant. The deeper I go into my research, the more I discover the value each part of the plant has- no matter how little it seems. Each part plays a vital role in your experience. I’ve just learned that cola is just one of the many parts that help to make up a cannabis flower.
Cola can be found on a female cannabis plant, which is strange to think about but that’s a blog for a whole other time. These colas grow in bud clusters close together and are usually broken apart to form a nug. It’s in these little nugs that you will find the terpenes and cannabinoids that affect the natural purpose of the bud. These terpenes can determine whether the bud is meant to naturally get you high or help medically. That is where the main role of cola lies, in what it provides.
Colas can come in various sizing depending on the light that was provided during the development of the plant. The more light, bigger buds- it’s simple! The larger ones are also found on the highest part of the plant, while the mini ones are typically found towards the bottom since there is less light being shined down there. Poor little guys! They then are manually separated from each other.
It is these bigger top buds that have more value and have earned the title as the main cola and are oftentimes referred to as the Apical Bud. These are the buds that are covered with trichome and that are then salvaged and used to make other products, such as edibles or pre-rolls. Trichome are that sugary looking part of the bud that are responsible for creating terpenes that play into the THC and CBD levels. Also, depending on the size of the trichome, it can also affect these levels. Since a cola can also provide trichomes in its buds it’s worth lies in that ability.
To simply put it, a cola is the part of the plant where you can find its natural clusters of critical buds for a good time. I do believe most of the value lies in the parts found inside the cola’s buds, such as its trichomes and terpenes. These are the things that greatly affect your high! So when shopping for yourself, take some time to really look into terpenes and what they are. I promise, it will all be worth it!
