Pick a Strain For Your Game
I have always enjoyed video games. When I was a kid I played Kingdom Hearts, Metal Gear, the original Tomb Raider, and even Pacman — but the PS1 game. These games were a way to help my mind focus on something, or if I was feeling restless, I could use them to work off some mental energy. I still do this today. Sometimes I will go to my BIL’s home and we will play old school games like Zelda, SuperMario, or Pokémon. Those we use more as mindless, free flow wandering games to just relax and not think for a while.
Since I have a very active mind, there is very rarely a way to calm it down. Video games help but not as much as I would like. So now I am asking myself, what else would help me?
Kind of a ‘duh’ moment. Smoking.
After some research, I found that my type of games require a Sativa strain. Sativa is associated with “head highs”, and can reduce anxiety while also giving you an energized feeling. It can help you be more productive, focused, and creative. I would definitely use this strain for games like the ones I mentioned above; Kingdom Hearts, Metal Gear, Tomb Raider. Games that have a linear storyline. These all require you to have a certain level of focus and creativity for the big boss or sneaking around.
(A linear storyline is basically a story that has one path and one path only. For video games, it means that the game is preset and you can’t divert from that path. Personally, not my favorite games.)
For the mindless, roaming games, I would suggest an Indica strain. This strain is known as the “body high”. It gives a total relaxation effect throughout the body reducing anxiety and insomnia. For this strain, I would probably recommend games like The Witcher, Fallout, Fortnite, Breath of the Wild, and definitely something like Animal Crossing for those who don’t care about story. These games are not linear. They are openworld, side-quest driven, multi-adventure games. Fortnite and Animal Crossing are just online games where you do as you please, either in teams or on your own, which is kind of perfect for a body and mind that is trying to relax.
If video games are your thing, like me, there is a strain for you to enhance your experience. Whether it be relaxation, or plugging into the world, either way, it benefits you and the time you’ll have.
