U.S. Recreational Marijuana Sales Bloomed in 2021

Read Time:31 Second

Recreational marijuana sales saw a sharp increase during the pandemic year of 2021. Almost a dozen states combined to collect about $3 billion in tax revenue from recreational marijuana sales.

These states include Colorado, California, Illinois, Nevada, and Michigan, which is higher than the $2.7 billion collected from the ten states that legalized marijuana sales in 2020.

One of the states that benefited the most from the influx of cash was Illinois due to facing a budget crunch because of recent rising pension costs. Many signs point to the recent pandemic as the reason behind why recreational marijuana sales bloomed in 2021.
