Rhode Island To Begin Adult-Use Cannabis Sales On December 1st
Today, December 1st, Rhode Island will begin adult-use cannabis sales. Five different medical cannabis compassion centers have been approved for hybrid retail licenses which will allow them to sell medical and adult-use cannabis in their stores. These compassion centers are the Aura of Rhode Island, Thomas C. Slater Center, Mother Earth Wellness, Greenleaf Compassionate Care Center, and RISE Warwick.
Rhode Island’s Governor Dan Mckee stated how “This milestone is the result of a carefully executed process to ensure that our state’s entry into this emerging market was done in a safe, controlled and equitable manner, It is also a win for our statewide economy and our strong, locally based cannabis supply chain, which consists of nearly 70 licensed cultivators, processors and manufacturers in addition to our licensed compassion centers. Finally, I thank the leadership of the General Assembly for passing this practical implementation framework in the Rhode Island Cannabis Act and I look forward to continuing our work together on this issue.”
This comes after the Rhode Island Cannabis Act was passed which licensed compassion centers to sell medical cannabis and adult-use cannabis to people 21 and older. The interim deputy director of the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation expressed how he looks forward to working with the cannabis community to make sure that the economic scales are in agreement with the regulations set by the state. The director went on to say the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation is excited and proud that these Rhode Island cannabis sales will begin.
This is an exciting time for the people of Rhode Island and we can’t wait to see how today goes!
